The State of Tennessee may have annual training/continuing education requirements for specific municipal governing bodies and certifications. We frequently receive questions about CMFO CPE and Utility Training requirements.
CMFO CPE
CMFOs should be familiar with CPE requirements. MTAS sponsored training that matches qualified CPE topics and categories will be identified in the session descriptions. MTAS only provides documentation of completed training.
The Comptroller's Office offers free CPE training throughout the year to help CMFOs complete the 16-hour annual CPE requirement. Please direct questions concerning CPE to the Division of Local Government Audit in the Comptroller's Office, 615-401-7841 or lga.web@cot.tn.gov.
Utility Training
Board members should be well-versed in utility training requirements. MTAS does not track or maintain progress towards meeting these requirements. However, we do provide documentation of completed MTAS training and identify sessions most applicable to utility board governance.
It is the responsibility of board members to maintain their own documentation of completed training and continuing education. The Comptroller’s Office provides an annual training statement to simplify this process. Board members should provide a copy to their municipality and keep the original for their records.
