Reference Number: MTAS-672
Reviewed Date: 07/22/2026

Certain parking restrictions applicable to public streets do not apply to vehicles engaged in the collection of municipal solid waste or recyclable materials. To qualify for these exemptions, collection vehicles must display activated hazard warning lights whenever stopped or standing to collect waste. The hazard lights must be visible from at least 200 feet in both directions. Collection vehicles also must comply with any additional lighting and equipment requirements established by the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security. T.C.A. §§ 55-8-158, 55-8-160.
