T.C.A. § 6-54-119 requires municipalities to retain as public record a copy of any standardized codes they adopt, including model building and fire codes. When a municipality cites a person for violating a standardized code adopted by reference, the citation must include a notation identifying with specificity where a copy of the code is located and the hours during which the person may read or inspect it. T.C.A. § 6-54-119(b). In addition, a copy of the code must be filed with the city clerk or recorder for public inspection at least 15 days before the adopting ordinance is passed. T.C.A. § 6-54-502.
