Jury Duty
Local governments are among the employers that must allow employees time off from work for jury service when the employee presents an appropriate summons to report for jury duty. An employee who serves as a juror is generally entitled to receive their usual compensation from the employer for the time spent on jury duty, although the employer may deduct from that amount any fees or compensation the employee receives from the court for serving as a juror. However, if the local government regularly employs fewer than five (5) employees, or if the employee has been employed for less than six (6) months, the local government is not required to compensate the employee during the period of jury service.
