MTAS was asked about the possibility of the city requiring a permit for short-term rental properties such as AirBnBs. MTAS participated in the Signal Mountain Town Council's strategic planning process in February 2024. The session resulted in a new mission statement for the town; confirmation of the existing vision statement; and a SWOT analysis that identified the town's internal strengths and weaknesses and external opportunities and threats.

Historically, Tennessee's fire mortality rate for civilians has been among the highest in the nation. During 2002-2010, the time period for this study, the national fire mortality rate declined, but the rate in Tennessee increased. The purpose of this study is to provide the analytical foundation for an informed plan of action to help reduce and prevent fatalities that occur in residential structures which is the type of incident that accounts for about three-fourths of all civilian fire deaths in the state.

The Municipal Technical Advisory Service (MTAS) participated in the Red Bank City Commission's strategic planning process on February 23, 2024. The session began with an overview of the strategic planning process. The objectives of the process were to create a mission statement, scan the internal and external environments via SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats), create a vision statement, select values, and then to devise goals to guide the city in achieving its vision. The final step in the process of strategic planning is to create a list of programs and policies (objectives) that will help the city achieve its goals.

The session resulted in a mission and vision statement for the city, as well as a SWOT analysis that identified the city's internal strengths and weaknesses and external opportunities and threats. The council also identified goals and objectives to address key issues.
