PULSE TN: Strengths-Based Leadership
Intensive Mission: "Amplifying the beat of local leadership for a stronger Tennessee.”
PULSE TN is a statewide leadership initiative that brings participants together for four sessions held across Tennessee (see calendar-at-a-glance below). Each session blends rigorous, strengths-based leadership development grounded in CliftonStrengths, community-engaged service-learning experiences, and peer collaboration. Together, these elements support participants in developing a Strengths-in-Action project that they will launch in their own communities, addressing UT System’s Grand Challenges.
PULSE TN 2026 Calendar-at-a-Glance
- Kickoff Retreat (July 22–23): Introduction to Tennessee’s Grand Challenges; Strengths-Based Leadership Foundations
- Middle Tennessee (August 19–20): Overcoming Addiction
- West Tennessee (September 23–24): Advancing K-12 Education
- East Tennessee (October 21–22): Strengthening Rural Communities
Note: Nomination does not commit an individual to participate in the program. Selected nominees will be contacted and invited to complete a formal application to determine their interest and availability for the program.

Municipal Leadership Framework
MTAS is excited to offer our Municipal Leadership Development Framework (PDF) for cities to use as they plan their own leadership development activities. Developed from extensive customer feedback, our framework identifies key capabilities municipal leaders should prioritize and develop to effectively lead their organizations. The Municipal Leadership Program is developed from this framework.
I thought the course (layout, resources, content) and the instructor (knowledge, delivery, and engagement) were truly fabulous.
I took part in the [former] MTAS Municipal Management Academy and much prefer the condensed and focused version of the material [in the Municipal Leadership Program]. It seems very relevant to governmental operations today. I especially enjoyed the predictive index aspect that gave me real-time feedback on my current leadership style and increased my self-awareness. Thanks so much! Great content and fantastic instructor!
