MTAS Training and Development Programs
MTAS provides in-person, virtual, and online training opportunities on subjects related to municipal government. Course topics include recent Tennessee legislation, elected officials training, utility board training, leadership and communication, and varied topics selected to address emerging municipal needs. MTAS training is fee-based.

We offer a variety of training opportunities in a wide range of topics.
The Administrative Hearing Officer training is a means for municipalities to acquire training for designated officials that are seeking to become administrative hearing officers with jurisdiction to hear violations of certain locally adopted codes, including building and property maintenance.
The Certified Municipal Finance Officer (CMFO) is an 11-course fee-based program that culminates with an exam at the end of each course. Courses are offered every month, except December. This program can be completed in one calendar year.
MTAS provides continuing education for municipal staff and elected officials who wish to learn something new or fulfill continuing professional education or state training requirements. CME offers a variety of personal and professional development topics designed to help municipal officials enhance their skills and knowledge.
MTAS provides training for municipal elected officials through our signature Elected Officials Academy and the Elected Officials Special Topic Series.
The Municipal Court Clerk Certificate Program is designed to help both the new clerk and the veteran develop and maintain the knowledge, skills and abilities required for successful court management.
Our Municipal Leadership Program is designed to equip leaders at all levels with the knowledge, tools and strategies to excel in their roles.
MTAS provides specialty and custom training to meet a variety of training needs. We work with municipalities to understand their goals and provide appropriate training solutions. Specialty and custom training services are fee-based.
Chapter 648 of Public Acts of 1994 requires Municipal clerks and recorders to become certified. Discover resources to achieve certification and fulfill requirements.
The Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury requires utility board training for certain municipal elected officials.
