DOJ Extends ADA Digital Accessibility Compliance Deadlines for Local Governments
Effective April 20, 2026, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) published an Interim Final Rule extending the compliance deadlines for these requirements.
The updated deadlines are:
- April 26, 2027 for local governments serving 50,000 or more
- April 26, 2028 for local governments serving fewer than 50,000 and special districts
The underlying accessibility requirements have not changed.
Local governments will still need to ensure that web content and mobile applications comply with Level A and Level AA requirements specified in the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) by the extended deadlines.
