Developing potable water reuse regulations / John Chlarson.
The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) broadly defines water reuse as “treating and repurposing of ‘waste’ water, such as municipal wastewater or stormwater, for alternative uses like landscape irrigation or even drinking water.”
While Tennessee does not currently have regulations for potable water reuse, the state has seen growing interest from water systems for piloting water reuse projects. Tennessee’s Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) formed the Tennessee Water Reuse Taskforce (Task Force) in August 2024 to research, explore, and develop potential potable water reuse regulations.
