Traffic & Transportation Engineer I or II
Purpose of Job Under limited supervision supports the Director of Engineering and Traffic Engineer III in the collection, analysis and maintenance of traffic/transportation/ITS data; may be responsible for supervising staff members in the Traffic Operations Center (TOC); reviewing engineering criteria for various types of plans and related administrative work. Responsibilities may include reviewing development plans for compliance to City specifications, functioning as a project manager for capital improvement projects, and providing technical knowledge to City Staff, elected officials and the general public.
Qualifications Traffic and Transportation Engineer I:
- Education and Experience: The required knowledge, skill, and abilities to satisfactorily perform job duties are normally acquired through attainment of a bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university in civil engineering or related discipline plus 2 years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Required Certifications/Licenses:
- TN Driver’s License
- Engineer Intern (EI)
- TDOT Local Government Guidelines Manual & ROW Training (Must be obtained prior to completion of the probationary period)
- TDOT Local Programs CEI Training (Must be obtained prior to completion of the probationary period)
- 10 Hours OSHA Training within 1 month of employment
- IMSA Traffic Signal Tech I and II (Must be obtained prior to completion of the probationary period)
Traffic and Transportation Engineer II:
- Education and Experience: The required knowledge, skill, and abilities to satisfactorily perform job duties are normally acquired through attainment of a bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university in civil engineering or related discipline plus 4 years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Required Certifications/Licenses:
- TN Driver’s License
- Professional Engineer (TN) (A Professional Engineering License from any state is required to apply for this position; however, the Tennessee Professional Engineering License must be obtained prior to completion of the probationary period.)
- TDOT Local Government Guidelines Manual & ROW Training (Must be obtained prior to completion of the probationary period)
- TDOT Local Programs CEI Training (Must be obtained prior to completion of the probationary period)
- 10 Hours OSHA Training within 1 month of employment
