General Statement of Duties
The employee performs difficult professional work in the handling of a variety of assignments in the planning division of the Development Services department; does related work as required. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of Development Services or another designee.
Distinguishing Features of the Class
The work of this class involves responsibility for the performance of moderately difficult technical work in city planning under the supervision of the Director of Development Services or their designee. Supervision may be exercised over subordinate professional, technical and clerical personnel. Independent judgment is exercised in the application of professional techniques and principles to recurring problems, which do not go beyond the bounds of established departmental rules, standards, and policies. Supervision is received from a superior who reviews work through consultation and analysis of reports prepared.
Acceptable Experience and Training
Graduation from a college or university of recognized standing with major course work in planning or one of the social or engineering sciences; Masters degree in planning or design discipline is preferred; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Specialized knowledge or experience in at least one other discipline, such as design, physical geography, geology, civil engineering, traffic engineering, economics, or political science, is desired.
