Floodplain Management Technician

The City of Gallatin is hiring a Floodplain Management Technician. 

The Floodplain Technician aids the Floodplain Administrator in the daily implementation of the City of Gallatin flood loss reduction activities including enforcing the City’s floodplain ordinance, updating flood maps, plans, and policies of the community, and any of the activities related to administration of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). 

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school in Planning, Geography, Cartography, Civil Engineering, or other related field; and
• Two (2) years recent, full-time experience in floodplain management.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Thorough knowledge of the Planning and Zoning principles, construction processes, inspections, research, and record keeping.
• Ability to learn and utilize various computer software programs such as Word, Excel, GIS (Arc View, etc), and particularly those related to the NFIP permit requirements.
• Basic knowledge of principles of surveying, building construction, hydrology and hydraulics.
• Ability to prepare, analyze and systematically compile technical data in electronic databases and software.
• Ability to prepare and present clear, concise reports both orally and in writing.
• Ability to prepare and present technical information clearly to the public.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with professional colleagues, employees, and representatives of other public agencies.
