Under the general direction of the Fire Chief or Assistant Fire Chief, the Fire Marshal serves as a member of the department's management team and provides leadership in reducing community risk through code enforcement, inspections, plan review, public education, data analysis, and fire investigations.
The Fire Marshal is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and supervising the Fire Prevention Bureau. This position oversees fire code enforcement, fire investigations, public fire and life safety education, plan review, permitting, and community risk reduction initiatives. The Fire Marshal serves as the department's technical expert regarding fire prevention and investigation while ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
The Fire Marshal supervises assigned personnel, manages bureau operations, coordinates with other governmental agencies, and represents the department before elected officials, business leaders, contractors, developers, and the public.
When required, the Fire Marshal will assume the role of Incident Safety Officer. The Fire Marshal will also carry out the responsibilities described in the Firefighter job description and any additional duties as directed.
Applicants with an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position are encouraged to apply. Candidates who do not currently possess all listed certifications may be considered if they are able to obtain the required certifications within a department-established timeframe, where applicable.
