The City of Bristol, Tennessee is seeking a motivated and skilled Engineering Construction Inspector to support and lead engineering inspection in all phases of public works construction. This role is responsible for inspecting water, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, and street construction associated with development projects, capital improvements and maintenance to ensure compliance with City standards and applicable regulations.
This position may be filled at the Level I, II, or III classification depending on qualifications and experience.
Position Levels Expectations, Requirements and Qualifications
- Level I – Performs entry-level inspection tasks under supervision.
- High School Diploma and 3 years of related experience
- Valid Driver’s License
- OSHA 10 hr Safety Training (obtain within 6 months of hire)
- Obtain the following within 12 months of hire:
- TDOT Plans Reading
- Workzone Flagger Training
- TDEC Level 1 Fundamentals of Erosion Prevention and Sediment Control
- TDOT Concrete Field Testing Technician Course
- TDOT Hot Mix Asphalt Certified Roadway Course
- Level II – Performs more complex inspections independently
- High School Diploma and 5 years of related experience
- All requirements of Level 1
- Obtain the following within 12 months of hire:
- TDOT Asphalt Surface Treatments
- TDOT Aggregate Certified Testing Technician Course
- TDOT Soils Technician Course
- Americans with Disability Act Training
- NASSCO - Pipeline Assessment Certification Program
- Level III – May manage small to medium construction projects with supervision.
- High School Diploma and 10 years of related experience
- All requirements of Level 1 and 2
- Obtain the following within 12 months of hire:
- APWA Certified Public Infrastructure Inspector (or Associates Degree Engineering Technology or related field)
- TDEC Level 2 Fundamentals of Erosion Prevention and Sediment Control
- Trench Safety Training
- NASSCO -Lateral Assessment Certification Program
- NASSCO -Manhole Assessment Certification Program
Work Environment & Physical Demands
Work is performed primarily on site with exposure to construction activities, equipment, noise, weather, confined spaces, hazardous chemicals, and traffic. Requires lifting 50 pounds or more.
