The Engineering Technician performs general engineering work in the design, construction, inspection and maintenance of a variety of public utilities under the regular supervision of the Utilities Engineer. Incumbent maintains accurate engineering reports and notes; reads and interprets engineering plans and specifications; applies drafting knowledge to preparation of designs, plans, estimates, reports and specifications; and establishes and maintains effective working relationships with the public, outside engineers, contractors and developers.
The Engineering Technician will also use GIS (Geographic Information Systems) to assist planners, engineers and other staff in their GIS needs like mapping and analysis for zoning inquiries, impact analysis, city limits mapping, property information management, engineering, and the Department of Utilities in a city government setting. The position will help to ensure that the GIS database is kept current by updating databases as directed.
