Codes Inspector

Under the direction of the Building Official, the Codes Inspector performs technical inspection and enforcement work to ensure compliance with adopted building codes, zoning regulations, property maintenance standards, and other applicable City ordinances.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid Tennessee driver’s license required.
• Two years of experience in construction, building inspection, code enforcement, permitting, customer service, or a related field preferred.
• Building codes certification from the State of Tennessee is preferred. 

Required Certifications

• Must obtain certification from the Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office as a Residential Building Inspector, Residential Plumbing Inspector and Residential Mechanical Inspector within one (1) year of hire.
• Must obtain certification from the Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office as a Commercial Building Inspector, Commercial Plumbing Inspector, Commercial Mechanical Inspector, and Fire Inspector within two (2) years of hire.
