Assistant Police Chief
The Assistant Chief of Police serves as the second-in-command of the Millersville Police Department and provides executive-level leadership and administrative oversight under the direction of the Chief of Police.
The Assistant Chief is responsible for assisting in the strategic management and operational oversight of the department, ensuring accountability, operational readiness, professional standards, accreditation compliance, asset integrity, and consistent execution of departmental policy.
This position plays a critical role in coordinating department-wide operations, supervising command and supervisory personnel, and supporting the strategic vision and operational priorities established by the Chief of Police. In the absence of the Chief, the Assistant Chief assumes command authority over departmental operations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Tennessee POST Certified Law Enforcement Officer in good standing.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience.
- Minimum of five (5) years in a supervisory or command-level capacity.
- Demonstrated experience supervising personnel and managing operational functions.
- Valid Tennessee driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Leadership, or related field.
- Graduate of a recognized command-level leadership program (e.g., FBI National Academy, Southern Police Institute, Northwestern School of Police Staff & Command, Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police (TACP) Leadership Program, or equivalent executive-level training).
- Experience supervising supervisory personnel preferred.
- Experience with accreditation processes, policy development, and organizational administration.
- Experience with RMS systems, digital evidence platforms, and data-driven policing strategies.
