RECREATION CENTER ATTENDANT
DEFINITION:
The employee is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the recreation center. Duties also include supervision of the recreation center, and scheduling facility use as requested by the public under the general supervision of the Recreation and Parks Director.
Instructions to the employee are generally specific; however, there are times the employee must consider different courses of action to complete the task.
EQUIPMENT/JOB LOCATION:
The employee will operate telephones; buffers and other custodial equipment are used.
Work is performed generally indoors at the recreation center.
The employee will be exposed to janitorial chemicals, tobacco smoke and, at times, loud noises.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
Sweeps, mops, waxes, and polishes floors.
Cleans restrooms and replenishes supplies.
Empties trash cans and cleans containers.
Dusts furniture.
Washes windows, walls, etc.
Supervises the activity of people using the Center in order to assure proper behavior and safety.
Answers telephone and makes reservations for use of recreational facilities.
ADDITIONAL EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
(Any one position may not include all of the listed duties or duties which may be performed.)
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions. Knowledge of basic custodial procedures.
Ability to perform light physical labor.
Ability to supervise children and maintain discipline.
Ability to give and carry out simple oral instructions.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public and other employees.
Ability to intermittently sit, stand and stoop.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Pass a drug screen by licensed physician.
Must comply with the City's "Weight Control Policy."
Experience supervising children.
Janitorial experience.
