DEFINITION

Under the general supervision of the Operating Superintendent, supervises and leads small crew engaged the maintenance, repair, testing, and installation of electric meters; participates in maintenance, repair, testing, and installation of electric meters; and other related work as required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Supervise small Crew in meter installations and repair.
Disassembles, cleans, repairs, replaces, and tests defective or worn parts on electric meters.
Completes work order tickets for each task performed.
Reads and understands written job instructions.
Writes reports by hand.
Hears clearly when working around equipment and in traffic, using proper safety precautions.
Lifts and carries up to 100 pounds, and pulls, pushes, or drags up to 150 pounds of meter maintenance, repair, or test equipment.
Sets, relocates, removes, and reads meters, picks up trash, performs preventive maintenance checks on vehicles and equipment.
Mend; climbs, crawls, kneels, squats, stoops, and twists for extended periods of time while maintaining, repairing testing, or installing electric meters.
Works indoors and outdoors in extreme temperatures including heat cold, works swings, and inclement weather.
Some exposure to dust, odor, temperature mechanical and toxic hazards, using proper safety precautions.
Courteous with the public and other city communicate effectively and courteously with the public and other city employees.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Keeps vehicles, storage areas, and meter shop clean, orderly and in safe working condition and uses good judgement to work safely and use equipment properly;


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of the general theory of operations and applications of different types of meters;
Knowledge of materials and equipment used in servicing the electric system.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
Knowledge of geographic area of the City.
Knowledge of State and Federal laws pertaining to electrical service requirements.
Knowledge of supplies and use of supplies of the main-tenance of the electric system.
Knowledge of accepted methods of installing and repairing an electric meter.
Ability to regulate and make repairs on electric meter.
Ability to make investigations on high bill complaints.
Ability to use the necessary tools.
Ability to perform all tasks of a Journeyman Lineman.
Ability to direct the activities of a small group in meter installations and repair;
Ability to complete and maintain accurate record.
Ability to deal effectively with customers.

RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of training and experience equivalent to:

High School Diploma or GED.
Tennessee Commercial Drivers License.
Certificate of competency as a Journeyman Lineman.
Two years experience as a meter maintenance worker in maintenance and repair of electric meters.
Applicants must be in such physical condition as not to impair their performance of the required duties of the class and may be required to take a physical examination given by a physician licensed to practice medicine in the State and designated by the City.
