SERVICE ORDER CLERK
DEFINITION
Under the general supervision of the Office manager, answers utilities, accounts receivable and tax customer service questions. Cross trains with tax clerks. Performs various clerical duties; does related work as required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Communicates effectively and courteously with customers in person, on the telephone and in writing for installation, turn-on, discontinuance, or changes in service;
Issues electrical permits;
Answers questions about utility customer service, accounts receivable and permits;
Fills out contract forms, determines charges for service requests, collects deposits, prepares change of address records, and issued discontinuance orders;
Reads letters, computer screens and printouts;
Files, sorts and retrieves records weighing up to 30 pounds;
May be required to climb ladder to retrieve records both in file room and in archives.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
Assists cashier in taking payments; locks up and opens the building as needed; sorts and distributes the mail as needed; computes, prepares and balances daily bank deposits and monthly billings.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Ability to type 40 wpm and use 10 key calculator by touch;
Ability to use two way radio and other modern office equipment;
Ability to use computers and other modern office equipment;
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form;
Ability to deal with problems involving several variables;
Ability to use simple mathematic skills to add, subtract, and divide all units of measure;
Knowledge of accounting procedures and data processing;
RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of training and experience equivalent to:
High school diploma or GED.
One year clerical, accounts payable and receivable experience involving large amounts of cash.
