RECREATION AIDE (Part-time)
DEFINITION:
This is beginning level recreation work at a playground or park area or other recreation area. The employees in this position are responsible for assisting in a diversified program that will satisfy the patrons of the recreation center. Work extends to responsibility for the children's physical well being while they are on the playground or recreation center.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Participates, assists in and leads in games and other recreation activities;
Teaches rules and playing skills of standard team and individual games and activities;
Maintains safety and health standards at center;
Provides first-aid to injured persons;
The position will require walking, running, jumping, throwing, catching, lifting, and moving in the performance of job duties;
The employee will probably be exposed to the adverse elements of the weather;
ADDITIONAL EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
Keeps and submits records of attendance and use of facilities.
Issues and picks up and maintains athletic equipment.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the principles, rules, materials, equipment, requirements, and organization of a variety of play and recreational activities, including low organized games, free play activities, team sports, and art and handicraft work, together with ability to instruct, coaches, and supervise several such activities.
Knowledge of play interests and needs of age group with whom the employee comes in contact.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of first-aid.
Ability to inspire confidence and enthusiasm and to mix readily with various groups, and to solve problems arising at a play area.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children and adolescents and the general public.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of training and experience equivalent to:
Graduation from a standard high school, vocational school or GED equivalent.
Some experience in the supervision of recreation activities as in camp counseling or as a participant in a variety of sports.
May be required to possess certification in first aid and C.P.R.
