WASTEWATER PLANT WORKER
DEFINITION
Employees in this class are under somewhat general supervision by the Water and Wastewater Supervisor. Work is performed in maintaining and servicing the wastewater facilities and performing other related duties as required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs operational activities under direction of Supervisory personnel, which may include r emoving course material and other obstructions from bar screen of aerators, clarifiers, digestors and other treatment plant units;
Performs laboratory testing under the direction of Supervisory or Senior lab personnel; ;
Performs general cleaning work such as waxing and buffing floors, cleaning windows, mopping and dusting;
Performs general grounds maintenance such as mowing grass, spraying weeds, and picking up paper;
Performs minor repairs and maintenance;
Assists more senior, Certified, or supervisory personnel in other operational and maintenance activities as needed.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
P erforms other work as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the materials and equipment used in maintaining and servicing the wastewater plant and facilities;
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions;
Knowledge of basic custodial procedures;
Ability to carry out simple written and oral instructions;
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees.
RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of training and experience equivalent to the following:
Graduation from a standard high school.
At least six (6) months experience in related work.
Applicants must be in such physical condition as not to impair their performance of the required duties of the class and may be required to take a physical examination given by a physician licensed to practice medicine in the State and designated by the City.
