JOB SUMMARY:
Under general direction of the Director of Development Services, plan, budget, supervise, coordinate, direct, and otherwise control the Traffic Section of the Traffic and Transportation Division of Development Services. Do related work as required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Administer, manage, and provide support for the following division functions: annual budget process; quality control of all construction projects at various sites in the City; preparation of design and contract documents for engineering improvements and purchases; engineering analysis of traffic problems; administration of the City’s street lighting program. Effectively supervise and evaluate subordinates. Coordinate effectively with local utility companies, state, county, surrounding cities, and the Council of Governments on related traffic issues. Appear before the City Plan Commission on traffic-related issues as directed. Represent the City in claims filed against the City. Respond to citizen and news media inquiries related to the traffic engineering function. Communicate courteously and effectively in person, by telephone, and in writing, with other employees, elected officials, the media, and the public. See and hear well enough to work safely in traffic and construction areas. Sit, stand, or walk for extended periods of time to inspect projects. Operate computer for word processing and other appropriate applications. Work indoors and outdoors in adverse conditions such as temperature extremes, heights, and noise.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, DEGREES, CERTIFICATES, AND/OR LICENSE:
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from a university with an engineering program accredited by the Accrediting Board for Engineering and Technology. Professional Engineer registered in Texas, or obtain such registration within six months. Class C Texas Driver’s License.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS:
Six years of progressively responsible experience in transportation engineering, preferably with a municipality, state, or county government. Professional supervisory, administrative, and technical knowledge in transportation and civil engineering design, construction, planning, and related fields. Good decision making, coordination, and negotiation skills.
