SENIOR ACCOUNTING CLERK
DEFINITION
Under direct supervision of Chief Accountant, assists in the departmental work details in accounts payable, accounts receivable and clerical functions and other related work as required. Instructions are detailed and specific, covering all aspects of the work.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Prepares various accounting and statistical reports including payroll, materials, transportation, overhead, accounts receivable;
Prepares various reports on retirement, hospitalization and life insurance, and leave;
Uses 10 key calculator by touch;
Makes various journal entries by hand;
Reads difficult source documents and computer screen;
Works and communicates effectively with the public and intra and inter departmental personnel.
Enters and submits data including cash disbursements and receipts batches for processing;
Sits and uses PC for extended periods of time.
0THER JOB FUNCTIONS
May be required to carry, hold, lift, push and pull a minimum of 35 pounds of computer paper, and keep the assigned areas clean;
Retrieve records and/or supplies from storage room.
Sorts reports and maintain files.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of accounting methodologies and procedures;
Knowledge of business arithmetic.
Some knowledge of office procedures, methods and equipment with particular reference to receiving and accounting for the receipt of cash.
Ability to use various accounting software packages;
RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of training and experience equivalent to:
High school diploma or GED.
Good mathematical background preferred.
One year experience in bookkeeping, accounts payable, accounts receivable and general clerical duties;
Data entry and use of 10 key calculator by touch are required
Typing 40 words per minutes.
