WHEREAS, Tennessee Code Annotated section 55-10-307 authorizes municipalities to adopt state rules of the road and by ordinance to provide additional regulations for the operation of vehicles within the municipality; and
WHEREAS, the charter of the city of Rockford in section 6-19-101 (15) authorizes the city to regulate, within the corporate limits, the use of public highways, streets, boulevards, parkways, and bridges; and
WHEREAS, the charter of the city of Rockford in section 6-19-101 (22) authorizes it to “define, prohibit, abate, suppress, prevent, and regulate all acts, practices, conduct, business, occupations, callings, trades, use of property and all other things whatsoever detrimental, or liable to be detrimental, to the health, morals, comfort, safety, convenience, or welfare of the inhabitants of the city, and to exercise general police powers” and
WHEREAS, the intersection of State Route 33 and Little River Road is narrow and not large enough for the maneuvering of large vehicles to make turns; and
WHEREAS, there have been many accidents at the intersection of State Route 33 and Little River Road that have led to traffic delays and damage to vehicles and property; and
WHEREAS, there are other ingress and egress options onto Little River Road so that this prohibition will not absolutely restrict traffic flow; now, therefore
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF ROCKFORD AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1 It is unlawful for motor vehicles, buses, and truck tractors whose length, including any part of its body or load, exceeds 30 feet to enter by turning or exit by turning into the intersection of State Route 33 and Little River Road.
Motor vehicle means every vehicle that is self-propelled, excluding motorized bicycles. Truck tractor means the noncargo carrying power unit that operates in combination with a semitrailer or trailer.
SECTION 2 This ordinance shall become effective upon final reading and the passage of at least 15 days after the first reading.
