Job description for the position of Electrical Technician.
Employees in this class are under the general supervision of the Service Department Supervisor. Work is performed in installing, disconnecting, removing and reconnecting electric power meters used to record current consumption of residential, commercial and industrial customers. Also performs other related work as required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Installs meters in response to application for service.
Cuts off meters when service has been discontinued and cuts on when services are renewed.
Works cut off list for non-payment of bills.
Perform troubleshooting and repairs of traffic light signals
Perform troubleshooting and repairs for Sewage treatment plant, water plant, sewer lift stations, electric department buildings and other related equipment.
Tests and repairs electric meters.
Operates light motor vehicle in performance of duties.
Performs other work as assigned.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
Checks customer complaints concerning electric bills, including making a physical inspection of and chocking electric meter.
Helps locate new services.
Keeps records and makes reports.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of materials and equipment used in servicing the electric system.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
Knowledge of geographic area of the City.
Knowledge of State and Federal laws pertaining to electrical service requirements.
Knowledge of supplies and use of supplies of the maintenance of the electric system.
Knowledge of accepted methods of installing and repairing an electric meter.
Ability to regulate and make repairs on electric meter.
Ability to make investigations on high bill complaints.
Ability to use the necessary tools.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
Ability to keep routine records and make simple reports.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public and other employees.
Any combination of training and experience equivalent to:
Graduation from a standard high school.
Experience in line work at the journeyman level.
Must possess a valid Tennessee driver license.
Applicants must be in such physical condition as not to impair their performance of the required duties of the class and may be required to take a physical examination given by a physician licensed to practice medicine in the State and designated by the City.
