Knowledgebase-Director of HealthJOB TITLE: Director of Health DEPARTMENT:Environmental Health EXEMPTFULL-TIME *******************************************************************************JOB SUMMARY:Under general administrative direction of the City Manager, administers the Health Department to comply with all local, state, and federal laws; plans and implements the environmental health and public programs for the City; prepares and presents departmental reports and budgets; does related work as required.===============================================================ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Confers, coordinates and negotiates with city manager, city council, department directors and employees on health matters;Recommends, prepares, and enforces regulations and ordinances in specific areas of environmental health; enforces local and state laws relating to public health;Directs and evaluates the activities of the Chief Sanitarian and Animal Services Supervisor in all environmental, public health, and neighborhood integrity programs; Prepares and administers budget and personnel requirements for the Health Department;Plans, provides, and conducts safety and training programs for department staff;Cooperates with municipal, state, and federal health officials on mutual environmental health matters;Communicates effectively and courteously with the public, other employees, and the media in person, in writing, and by telephone;Some exposure to various chemicals including insecticides and herbicides, using proper safety precautions.Represents City in professional organizations===============================================================OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:Assists Fire Department and Emergency Management personnel with safe resolution of toxic and hazardous chemical spills, both indoors and outdoors;Safely handles chemicals including insecticides, herbicides;Operates computer to do word processing.===============================================================REQUIRED EDUCATION, DEGREES, CERTIFICATES, AND/OR LICENSES:Bachelor's degree in Natural Science or related field.===============================================================EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS:Five years experience in environmental health;Knowledge of laws, regulations, and principles pertaining to environmental health directives;Experience in addressing groups and organizations on environmental health issues.
