City of Mount Juliet, Tennessee
AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING RESIDENTS OF EXISTING DWELLING UNITS WITHIN THE CITY TO MAKE MONTHLY PAYMENTS AS A MEANS OF PAYING THE COST OF TAP FEES FOR CONNECTING TO THE CITY’S SANITARY SEWER SERVICE AND PROVIDING FOR A METHOD OF COLLECTION
WHEREAS, the City of Mount Juliet estimates that approximately 10 percent of its residential units are not connected to sanitary sewer service; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners has determined that the use of individual and shared septic tank systems at certain residences poses a health and sanitation problem for the city; and
WHEREAS, the City of Mount Juliet desires to provide incentives for existing residences to make it more convenient and affordable for residents to connect to sanitary sewer service in order to help alleviate any real or potential health and sanitation problems; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Board of Commissioners of the City of Mount Juliet, Tennessee:
Section 1. Sanitary sewer tap fees for existing single-family dwellings within the city limits of Mount Juliet may be paid in monthly installments of $100 per month.
Section 2. Monthly installments provided for in Section 1 shall be added to the monthly sewer bill until the sewer tap fee is paid in full.
Section 3. Nothing in this ordinance shall relieve a property or business owner applying for a sewer tap for new construction from paying the sewer tap fee in a single payment. Existing business establishments are required to pay the sewer tap fee in a single payment.
Section 4. This ordinance supercedes any ordinance, or part of an ordinance, or regulation of the City of Mount Juliet prescribing a method of payment for sewer tap fees for existing dwellings.
Section 5. This ordinance shall become effective upon final passage, the public welfare requiring it.
