Tennessee City Codes and Charters

A "charter" is the grant from the state which brings a city into existence and defines its governmental structure and powers. The Tennessee city charters produced and maintained by MTAS are linked below under "Tennessee City Charters"

A "code of ordinances" is a compilation (codification) of all city ordinances of a general and continuing nature, and penal ordinances. MTAS produces and maintains over 200 city codes, which are linked below under "Tennessee City Codes". Some Tennessee city codes are either produced in-house at the city or by a commercial producer. Links to those codes are listed under "Tennessee City Codes NOT Produced by MTAS".
