Municipal Court Processes
(NOTE: Content in this section was formerly distributed as the "Municipal Courts Manual" publication.)
This guide was developed for municipal courts with the authority to enforce municipal ordinances. Some cites in Tennessee exercise concurrent general sessions court criminal jurisdiction. That is, they have the same authority as a state general sessions court (where they can hear Class A and B criminal misdemeanors) and they can also hear cases involving municipal ordinance violations (such as traffic cases and municipal code violations). This guide will not attempt to address the procedures or requirements of courts with concurrent general sessions jurisdiction.
