AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING A POLICY FOR THE PLACEMENT OF STREETLIGHTS IN THE TOWN OF WOODBURY

BE IT ORDAINED by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen of the Town of Woodbury:

Section 1. Purpose. The following is hereby adopted as the policy for the location and installation of streetlights.

Section 2. Location within the town only. Streetlights paid for by the town shall be located within the corporate limits only.

Section 3. Location of lights. Streetlights will be provided in residential and commercial areas according to the following:

(1) Streetlights shall not be placed closer than two hundred (200) feet apart or every other utility pole.

(2) Streetlights shall be used to light streets only, except such lights may be placed in publicly owned parking lots and around city owned buildings and facilities.

(3) Streetlights shall face the street on which they are located.

(4) Streetlights shall not be provided on privately owned streets or private property.

Section 4. Exceptions. The Chief of Police may request a streetlight not in conformance with Section 3 above if such light is within a high crime area or high traffic hazard location. Such request must be approved by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen.

Section 5. New Installations. Installation of new streetlights will be made by the electric company or utility normally providing electric service to the town only through a standard work request signed by the Mayor or City Recorder.

Section 6. This ordinance shall become effective upon final passage, the public welfare requiring it.
