AN ORDINANCE OF THE TOWN OF SNEEDVILLE, TENNESSEE PROHIBITING HEAVY TRUCK TRAFFIC ON NEW JAIL STREET.

WHEREAS, heavy trucks may ruin infrastructure or other property when traveling on certain streets such as New Jail Street, and;

WHEREAS, the regulation of such vehicles is necessary in order to protect the investment in infrastructure and property made by the Town and its citizens, and;

WHEREAS, alternative routes exist for heavy traffic and thus the use of New Jail Street is not necessary:

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED by the Town of Sneedville, Tennessee that,

Section 1. It shall be unlawful for any person to operate upon New Jail Street any freight motor vehicle, tractor-trailer, or semi-trailer with a gross rated weight of more than 20,000 pounds.

Section 2, Exceptions to this ordinance include the following:
Vehicles making occasional local deliveries.
Emergency vehicles.
School buses.
Construction-related vehicles in the performance of temporary activities.
Trucks owned or operated by the City, the County, other governmental entities, or any utility in the conduct of official business.
Any such truck under contract with the City, County, other governmental entity, or utility in the occasional conduct of official business.

Section 3. Any person who violates any provision of this ordinance shall be subject to a fine of up to $50 per occurrence.

Section 4. This ordinance shall become effective upon its final passage, the public welfare requiring it.
