JOB SUMMARY:
Under general supervision of Assistant Purchasing Agent, assists in technical aspects of the purchasing function, maintains vehicle and equipment records, and assists in disposal of city surplus and/or impounded property; performs software and hardware maintenance for City's telephone system; and does related technical work as required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Coordinates closely and effectively with various City departments. Performs technical duties with respect to the City's Purchasing/Inventory(P/I) software system, and serves as liaison between Purchasing and Data Processing Departments on P/I software related issues. Maintains city maintenance agreements, rental agreements, lease agreements, City vehicle titles, and City copier usage files. Performs internal City telephone system changes and maintenance as directed and, effectively coordinates with various telephone system/equipment vendors when repairs/technical assistance is required. Sits and enters data into personal computer/CRT for long periods of time. Assists buyer(s) in making minor purchases of goods and services. Assists other Purchasing staff members and warehouse employees in utilization of P/I software system. Works with accounts payable personnel to effect prompt payment of goods and services received when non-routine problems are encountered. Interprets and effectively explains City purchasing policies and procedures to other city departments. Communicates courteously and effectively with other employees, vendors, and the public, in person, via telephone, and in writing.

Use PC and printer, telephone communications terminal, calculator, FAX machine and copier machine. Answers telephone.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, DEGREES, CERTIFICATES, AND/OR LICENSE:
High school diploma.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS:
Five years experience in purchasing, accounts payable or a related field. Five years experience as Purchasing Assistant with the City. Completion of software training on Siemens IIE telephone system switch required. Must have ability to utilize Personal Computer and spreadsheet software to perform work efficiently and accurately. Must be able to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and maintain effective working relationships with vendors, other city employees and the general public.
