A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF MAYOR AND ALDERMEN OF THE TOWN OF SNEEDVILLE, TENNESSEE ADOPTING MINIMUM TRAINING STANDARDS FOR FIREFIGHTERS.
WHEREAS, in 2009 the State of Tennessee passed a set of minimum training standards for firefighters; and,
WHEREAS, a number of cities and counties were excluded from this legislation; and,
WHEREAS, minimum training standards are essential to the development of a highly trained and capable Fire Department;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen of the Town of Sneedville, Tennessee that:
Section 1. All firefighters must attend a 16-hour initial training class developed by the Tennessee Fire and Codes Enforcement Academy in firefighting procedures and techniques, or complete equivalent training approved by the Tennessee Commission on Firefighting Personnel Standards and Education, before being allowed to actively fight a fire.
Section 2. Every firefighter shall complete the “basic and live firefighting” course offered by the Tennessee Fire and Codes Academy, or an equivalent course, within three years of joining the Fire Department.
Section 3. Firefighters who have five years or more of experience shall be exempt from the provisions of this resolution. Other exemptions include those found in TCA 4-24-112.
