JOB SUMMARY:
Under general administrative direction of the City Manager and Deputy City Manager, administer and manage intergovernmental relations on transportation issues. Do related work as required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Provide advice to the City Manager, Deputy City Manager, and the Director of Development Services on long and short range planning of transportation facilities, and construction and maintenance of all transportation facilities at various sites. Act as liaison to all transportation-related agencies of the state, county, surrounding cities, Council of Governments, Dallas Area Rapid Transit, and the Chamber of Commerce to coordinate transportation-related programs and projects. Coordinate transportation-related functions with the City Manager’s Office. Administer consultant contracts. Make presentations to the City Council as directed. Respond to citizen and media inquiries, and carry out other duties and responsibilities related to transportation planning and policies. Communicate courteously and effectively in person, by telephone, and in writing, with other employees, elected officials, the media, and the public. See and hear well enough to work safely in traffic and construction areas. Sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time inspecting projects. Operate computer for word processing and other appropriate applications.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, DEGREES, CERTIFICATES, AND/OR LICENSE:
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from a university with an engineering program accredited by the Accrediting Board for Engineering and Technology. Professional Engineer registered in Texas, or obtain such registration within six months. Class C Texas Driver’s License.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS:
Five to seven years of progressively responsible municipal experience in traffic and transportation planning and engineering. Professional supervisory, administrative, and technical knowledge in transportation and civil engineering design, construction, planning, and related fields. Good decision making, coordination, and negotiation skills.
