DEFINITION

Under the immediate supervision of the Superintendent of Stores keeps building and grounds in a clean and orderly condition, assist Superintendent with operations of the warehouse; and other related work as required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Makes minor building repairs using hand tools including changes light bulbs, painting and making minor plumbing, electrical wiring and other related maintenance repair activities.
Sweeps, mops, scrubs, and vacuums hallways, stairs and office space, dusts all areas of buildings and furniture.
Operates buffer, strips and finishes floors; operates carpet and furniture shampoo machine; operates steam cleaning machine.
Empties trash and garbage containers.
Mows lawn, trims shrubbery and cultivates flowers using hand tools and power tools.
Clean snow and debris from sidewalks.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

Assist the Stores Superintendent with ordering, receiving, storing, inventorying, issuing and shipping materials, supplies, tools, equipment, and parts, in stockroom, warehouse, or yard.
May be subject to exposure to dust, fumes, and hazardous cleaning chemicals, to complete maintenance duties.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of all types of cleaning chemicals, floor finishes and their application;
Ability to adjust heating and cooling systems;
Ability to perform minor building repairs and painting;
Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with the public and other city employees.
Ability to reads and understands verbal or written job instructions and warning labels;
Ability to uses good judgement to work safely and use equipment properly;
Ability to lifts and carries up to 100 pounds, and pulls, pushes, or drags up to 150 pounds of equipment;
Ability to stand, walk, twist, and stoop for extended periods of time while making repairs and/or setting up meeting room equipment;
Ability to use proper safety precautions;
Ability to work effectively as team member.

RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of training and experience equivalent to:

Completion of eleventh grade;
High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Tennessee Drivers License required.
At least three months work experience
Applicants must be in such physical condition as not to impair their performance of the required duties of the class and may be required to take a physical examination given by a physician licensed to practice medicine in the State and designated by the City.
