Text of Document: RECREATION SPECIALIST
Under general supervision, responsible for continuous supervision of recreation center programs and activities; responsible for specific program area such as playgrounds, school centers# swimming pool or similar programs; and do related work as required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Operate the continuous programs of recreation center;
Keep center open during operating hours;
Supervise organized class programs and instructors;
Supervise free play activities;
Keep records; collects monies;
Maintains supplies and inventory;
Write publicity releases;
Plans and supervises assigned program area.
Communicate effectively with the public.
Conduct and/or supervise programs at various recreational center locations.
Ability to supervise large groups, including children, both visually and audibly to ensure health/safety standards and the orderly integration of all programs.
ADDITIONAL EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
May be required to carry, push, pull, drag or hold objects up to 30 lbs. of equipment or furniture.
Perform minor maintenance chores.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Experience in organization, supervision, and promotion;
Ability to make quick decisions;
Written language ability;
Operate continuous program of recreation;
Knowledge of personal computer and ability to operate a calculator.
Cope with large crowds and high noise levels.
Knowledge of techniques and methods of supervising recreational activities;
Knowledge of equipment used in various games, sports, and other recreational activities.
Knowledge of principles and techniques of planning and directing group recreational activities.
Ability to develop and maintain effective public relations.
High School diploma with extensive experience in recreation.
Bachelor's degree in recreation or related field with some experience preferred.
