JOB SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the Director of Finance, has management responsibility for Municipal Garage and vehicle and equipment maintenance, inventory/warehouse function, and Municipal Service Center facility and fenced premises; and performs other management functions and related work as required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Directs, supervises and evaluates the Assistant Fleet Manager, Mechanic Supervisor I, Mechanic Supervisor II, Fleet Parts Manager and Materiel Services Superintendent; manages a large work force that engages in overhaul service and repair of City automotive and industrial equipment, and performs inventory/warehouse functions; establishes and maintains preventive maintenance program for vehicles and mechanical equipment; establishes and implements operating policies and procedures for Equipment Services and Materiel Services; coordinates the activities of the Municipal Garage and Materiel Services Warehouse with other City user departments; prepares vehicle and equipment specifications; prepares annual budget requests for Equipment Services and Materiel Services; manages the information system supporting fleet maintenance, assuring accuracy and adequacy of information received from it; evaluates vehicles and equipment with respect to replacement due to age, history of repairs and overall maintenance costs; performs forecasting and financial planning functions for the replacement of fleet vehicles and equipment; uses good judgment and resourcefulness in planning and accomplishing departmental objectives; communicates courteously and effectively with upper level City management, subordinate personnel, other City employees, vendors and the general public; coordinates selection of personnel and recommends promotions; coordinates long term planning for Service Center facility; manages the maintenance and use of Service Center building and fenced premises; plans and implements in-service and outside training for subordinate personnel; establishes safety standards for operation; establishes standards of housekeeping for Equipment Services and Materiel Services.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
May participate in some mechanical work to diagnose equipment malfunctions; inputs data and performs word processing on computer.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, DEGREES, CERTIFICATES, AND/OR LICENSE:
Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree required; major in Management or Industry and Technology preferred.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS:
Five years experience in writing vehicle and equipment specifications; five years progressively responsible managerial experience, preferably in a municipal environment; ability to plan and direct activities of others; ability to delegate effectively and promote a team working environment; general knowledge of regulations and statutes relative to municipal government.
