JOB SUMMARY:
Under general administrative direction of the Assistant City Manager for Development Services, Deputy City Manager and City Manager, provides professional counsel and technical services to the City Council, City Plan Commission and City Manager on matters relating to city planning, regulation of development within the city, and regional planning issues. Does related work as required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Supervises, directs and evaluates the work of the Planning Division of the Development Services Department. Provides staff support to the City Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Adjustment. Directs preparation and updating of the Comprehensive Planning Guide. Administers implementation of zoning and subdivision regulations within the City. As required, conducts studies relating to development trends, issues and techniques. Develops and explains revisions to regulatory ordinances. Reads and interprets zoning and subdivision maps, construction documents and plans. Communicates effectively with the public and development community orally and in writing. Visually inspects planning and development documents and visits project sites.

Facilitates and works within a "team oriented" environment, being both an effective team leader and team member. Communicates the City's position effectively in public forums and meetings. While implementing development regulations and City goals, seeks innovative solutions to problems within the development review process.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
Use of hand held calculator and computer, some filing, graphic preparation and presentation, and extended work hours as needed.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, DEGREES, CERTIFICATES, AND/OR LICENSES:
Masters degree in City Planning, Landscape Architecture, Architecture or Public Administration or related degree; Bachelor's degree in the same areas as listed above and two years suitable experience may be substituted for a Masters degree.

Certification by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP). Texas Drivers License, Class C.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS:
Five years in increasingly responsible positions within a municipal planning operation. Good organizational skills and decision making ability required.
