Text of Document: MAINTENANCE WORKER

DEFINITION:

The employee is responsible for performing maintenance tasks of an unskilled or semi-skilled nature: cutting grass, loading and unloading dirt, gravel, trash, and other debris, including collection and disposal of refuse at the park complex. Duties also include field maintenance of the playing areas under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Superintendent and general supervision of the Recreation and Parks Director.
Instructions to the employee are generally specific; however, there are times the employee must consider different courses of action to complete the tasks.
The employee in this position is seasonal.

EQUIPMENT/JOB LOCATION:

The employee will operate light duty vehicle, tractors, riding, push or pull mowers, weedeater, chain saws, rakes, shovels, etc.
Work is performed outdoors and some tasks will be performed regardless of weather conditions. The employee will be exposed to loud noise, dirt, dust, tobacco smoke, and foul odors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

Cuts grass with hand tools or power equipment.
Loads and unloads dirt, gravel, and other debris.
Cleans, maintains and services equipment and tools.
Must perform heavy manual labor for extended periods under some unfavorable climatic conditions, frequently lifting objects 25 to 50 lbs.
Preparation of all fields at the Lions Club Complex.
Picks up all trash in the area, and disposes of properly.
Clean and restock restrooms daily.
Responsible for cleaning pavilions.
Must be able to bend, crouch, and stoop as a result of field maintenance preparation.

May operate other machinery.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of practices used in the operation of equipment.
Knowledge of grounds maintenance.
Knowledge of safety precautions.
Knowledge of the materials and equipment used to work up and prepare ball fields.
Knowledge of occupations hazards.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees.
Ability to understand simple oral instructions.
Ability to work with machinery and sharp tools.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have a valid Tennessee Operator's License.
Must pass a drug screen by licensed physician.
Must comply with the City's "Weight Control Policy."
