DEFINITION

Under the general direction of the Line Supervisor, the employee operates heavy motorized equipment used in the maintenance of a electric distribution and other related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Drives digger truck to job location for digging holes to set poles, hang transformers; load and pickup equipment;
Follows written and oral job instructions;
Grounds transformers in preparation for installation;
Puts cut-outs-load breaks together for installation;
Checks voltage and meter settings;
Loads bolts, insulators, cross-arms, and wire for both primary and secondary installation.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Maintains storage areas clean and orderly and performs daily preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of practices used in the operation of heavy equipment;
Knowledge of city and state traffic regulations;
Knowledge mechanical operation of heavy equipment;
Knowledge of safety procedures follow when excavating;
Knowledge of requirements for proper care equipment;
Knowledge of operating equipment skillfully and safely;
Ability to operate a variety of heavy equipment;
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions;
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees.

RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of training and experience equivalent to:

High School Diploma or GED;
Tennessee Commercial Drivers License
Two years experience operating heavy motorized equipment;
One years experience with electrical wiring.
Applicants must be in such physical condition as not to impair their performance of the required duties of the class and may be required to take a physical examination given by a physician licensed to practice medicine in the State and designated by the City.
