JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the CIS Coordinator, performs support work requiring specialized knowledge of departmental operations. Serves as primary contact for citizen inquiries; and does related work as required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Performs support functions for Citizens Information Services requiring considerable discretion and specialized knowledge.
Prepares daily newspaper clippings from local and national publications.
Assists the public, in person or on phone, with questions requiring knowledge of policies, procedures and programs.
Proofreads printed materials for grammatical errors, inconsistencies and overall layout; meets deadlines.
Prepares correspondence, articles and other written materials, operating a computer and word processing programs.
Operates other office machines such as photocopier, calculator, typewriter, paper cutter and fax machine when required.
Prepares departmental payroll and prepares bills for payment.
Maintains CIS office files.
Attends meetings and takes minutes if required.
Works independently in the absence of specific instructions or supervision.
Communicates effectively and courteously with the public and other City employees, in person, on the phone, and in writing, in the English language.
Lifts, carries, drags, holds, pushes or pulls up to 10 pounds of office materials or related equipment.
Sits or stands for extended periods of time reading, typing, entering data or filing.
Safely and efficiently operates and maintains assigned equipment.
Some extended hours are occasionally required.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
May help to promote or conduct City-wide functions such as employee food drive; may take photos for City publications.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, DEGREES, CERTIFICATES, AND/OR LICENSE:
High School diploma plus two years in college in English, journalism, communications or related field; Bachelor's degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Two years experience in general office support or related field.
Must be tactful, maintain confidentiality.
Must effectively organize and plan work; be detail oriented, thorough, and resourceful.
Must have a good command of the written word and sentence structure.
Must maintain effective working relationships with others.
Type 40 WPM; have knowledge of personal computers.
