AN ORDINANCE REGULATING PLAY VEHICLES CONTAINING WHEELS ON STREETS, SIDEWALKS, AND OTHER PUBLIC PLACES

WHEREAS, the use of skateboards and other similar devices on public property in Sparta has often become a nuisance and a safety hazard for pedestrians who use sidewalks in the city; and

WHEREAS, the City of Sparta has a lawful duty and obligation to keep free from obstructions and safe for pedestrians; and

WHEREAS, the City of Sparta is concerned about its liability by allowing play vehicles to skate on streets, sidewalks, and at other public places; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Sparta, Tennessee:

Section 1. It shall be unlawful for any person to use roller skates, coasters, skateboards, or any similar vehicle or toy or article on wheels or a runner on any public street, roadway, alley sidewalk, or other public building or public place, except in such areas as may be specifically designated for such purposes by the city board.

Section 2. This ordinance shall become effective upon its final adoption, the public welfare requiring it.
