Subject: RE: Emergency Personnel Yearly Physicals/OT Pay questions
Sorry for the delay in responding to your inquiry. You posed some interesting questions about requiring employees to use their health insurance to pay for physicals and shots. The answer to both questions is yes the city can do it and others cities do. I spoke with Bonnie and she indicated that she has heard of it being done a couple of ways:
1. They can go to physician of their choice and get a form filled out, or
2. The employer can provide a series of onsite mobile clinics and pay for it separately or have them file the claims through insurance
The other question, though, is do you really want to? Since it is wellness related, wouldn’t it be more appropriate to make it an incentive and convenient. You can get a larger group done at one time as oppose to them trickling in one at a time.
Finally, have you thought of the impact on your health insurance with the influx of claims for physical exams and shots?
