Text of Document: RECREATION MAINTENANCE SUPERINTENDENT
The employee is responsible for general maintenance of the Recreation & Parks facilities, including determining maintenance problems and devising appropriate courses of action, preventive maintenance, facility/equipment inspections, development and supervision of a routine maintenance schedule.
Duties also include other support services under the general supervision of the recreation and parks director.
Instructions are general, requiring the employee to use independent judgement. The employee also supervises and directs the maintenance staff.
The employee will operate light duty vehicles, mowers, tractors, weedeater, sprayers and other maintenance equipment.
Work is generally performed outdoors regardless of weather conditions.
Work involves exposure to chemicals, dirt, dust, grease, and moving parts of machinery; also, the employee may be exposed to tobacco smoke.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
Work is performed typically standing, walking, bending, climbing ladders and frequently lifting objects weighing 25 to 50 lbs.
Supervises and delegates tasks to full time employees, volunteers and prisoner help.
Inspects and repairs facilities and equipment on a regular basis.
Responsible for maintaining all recreation facilities, to include emptying garbage, preparing ball fields, pool, parks and buildings for use.
Inspects equipment for proper safety.
Performs minor repair on equipment.
Responsible for maintenance schedule of work.
Must be able to communicate effectively with the public and employees of the city.
Performs additional duties or emergency duties after normal work hours when requested by supervisor or designee.
ADDITIONAL EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Performs general carpentry, plumbing and electrical repair.
Determines if ball fields are useable after periods of inclement weather.
Expected to locate needed equipment, parts, or services from qualified vendors in compliance with purchasing guidelines.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the principles of supervision.
Knowledge of safe practices used in the operation of assigned equipment.
Knowledge of facility and grounds maintenance.
Knowledge of safety precautions.
Knowledge of the routine care and use of motor vehicles.
Knowledge of the materials and equipment used in general maintenance and construction work.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
Ability to operate assigned equipment.
Ability to direct the work of subordinates.
Must possess a valid Tennessee driver's license.
Graduate from a standard high school or equivalent.
Must pass drug screen by licensed physician.
Must meet City's "Weight Control Policy."
